What a year without sugar does to you

In the beginning, the children of American Eve Schaub were not thrilled that their mother let the whole family follow a sugar-free diet, but soon the whole family noticed how much of an impact sugar has on you.

New lifestyle
After watching a documentary about sugar, Eve decided it was time to stop eating sugar for a year. She removed not only granulated sugar, but also glucose-frustose syrup, honey, maple syrup and artificial sweeteners from the menu.

Changes
Eve is surprised that the experiment didn't do anything for her line. She did notice other changes. Eve's taste buds developed much stronger. 'After a while, everything started to taste different,' says Eve.

Sweet sin
Occasionally it was allowed to sin, Eve did so with a glass of red wine. Once a month the whole family was allowed dessert after dinner. Through the experiment, Eve discovered how much hidden sugars you normally eat. Mayonnaise without sugar? Impossible to find, that's why Eve now makes it herself, just like bread.

And then the year was over…
'We are now eating sugar again, but much less. I am still more sensitive to taste. I used to love a big piece of cake, now I prefer a more subtle fruit sorbet.' You can read about Eve and her family's entire sugar-free experience in the book A Year of No Sugar, which is in English starting this month. available.
