3 simple ways to sweeten your food without sugar

Do you have a sweet tooth, but would you like to use less sugar? With these tips you can make your food sweeter in simple ways without having to use (extra) sugar. Are you reading along?

1. High fiber fruits and vegetables

Ripe and fresh fruits such as bananas, pears and pineapple, like vegetables such as sweet potato, have a natural sweet taste. There is an important difference between added sugar, such as caster sugar, honey and agave, and natural sugars found in fruits and vegetables. This is partly due to fiber:these help to slow down the absorption of sugar in your body, making them easier to process. It also keeps you full for longer. For example, use pears in salads or in baking, use sweet potatoes in your brownies or make waffles and pancakes with pumpkin.

2. Nuts and seeds

Nuts and seeds also make cooking and baking easier without sugar. Roasting nuts is a simple step to add more flavor when you don't use added sugars. In addition, they also provide more texture in your dishes. Pecans, walnuts and almonds are ideally suited for bread batter. Unsweetened nut butters can also add flavor to, for example, cakes, smoothies and sauces. Does your family have a nut allergy? Then use pumpkin and sunflower seeds!

3. Spices

Spices are also a nice addition to sugar-free dishes. Are you looking for a sweet touch? Then choose vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg and cardamom:super nice for baking, but also for preparing a soup, rice dish or casserole. Note that some brands add sugar to their vanilla extract. Of course you prefer to choose vanilla pods, so you know for sure what you use in your kitchen.
