If you want good food in den Bosch, there are plenty of options for a bite to eat. Yet there are also lesser-known gems where you can go for a delicious dinner, without having to take a very big wallet with you. I'll tell you more about restaurant Aarde, where Frank and I recently had a delicious dinner.

Den Bosch is almost 'around the corner' for us and that is why we come here regularly. Yet it is also not the case that we can be found in den Bosch every month to eat well. After all, we also have two children who -despite the fact that they come along regularly- do not always have to be there. And if they don't go out to dinner with us, we will soon be in our own village, so that we can be home quickly if necessary. The children are then home alone, and that is fine.
This time we were invited by Lonneke (owner of restaurant Aarde and Mamadrinktwijn and also a vinologist) to have a nice meal at restaurant Aarde in den Bosch. We delivered the children to grandparents and took some time for ourselves.
I would like to comment on that, because you would almost walk past this restaurant because it is not very noticeable from the outside. It is also located in the Verwersstraat in den Bosch, where there are many more restaurants. Still, it's worth popping in here and eating good food at a decent price.
Besides the fact that you can eat well at Aarde in den Bosch, the food is also as honest as possible. Attention is not only paid to how it sits on your plate, but also to how it ends up on your plate.
They serve flavors from all over the world, but the ingredients preferably come from local entrepreneurs and are organic as much as possible. Not only the food, but also the drinks that are served, they even have an organic beer on the menu. And I love that. This restaurant proves that this way of sustainable living and eating can go hand in hand with very tasty dishes. And as a customer you can easily go along with that by simply eating good food.
In order to invite the customer to eat honestly, half of the menu at Aarde in den Bosch is composed of tasty food without meat. Completely in line with the philosophy that we all have to do our part, these Bossche entrepreneurs have consciously chosen to do so. Are you a huge meat lover? Don't worry, there are still plenty of dishes with meat available.
Despite the fact that the menu reveals very tasty dishes, we have ventured a tasting in which good food and worldly flavors are central. As a starter, the nachos with a bubble. Well, you have to celebrate a bit when you're out together, don't you?
In the next round we got a delicious Greek salad and a couscous with beetroot mousse, closely followed by vegetable spring rolls, tsaziki and tortelini with spinach.
The last round we get homemade Indian rendang to an original grandma's recipe. Delicious.
What might take some getting used to in this restaurant in den Bosch:the delicious food is served in bowls and the plate where you eat the first course (including fork and knife) is not collected until the next courses are served. I don't know if this was a fluke because it was a tasting, but I myself placed it under the heading 'sustainability'. If you look a little further as an entrepreneur, all that washing up is actually not necessary at all and certainly not environmentally friendly. It gave me a good feeling, although I had to get used to it 😉 .
Sustainability is woven into the entire concept, without compromising taste and quality. In fact… it probably improves the taste of the delicious food and drinks. For example, at Aarde they donate water, coffee and tea from Earth, a supplier that uses 100% of the net profit to finance sustainable water systems in poor countries. For example, good food in Den Bosch goes hand in hand with making good choices.
To continue that trend -and of course because we liked the coffee so much- I immediately looked on the internet to see if EARTH coffee is also for sale for private individuals. And yes! You can simply order this coffee online! Another small tip to live a bit more sustainably.
Many restaurants in den Bosch are packed on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. If you want good food in den Bosch, then restaurant Aarde is a very good choice. The dishes have a refined taste and are beautifully presented. In addition, this restaurant is very affordable. In the summer they also have a fantastic terrace
Do you want to make sustainable choices in addition to good food in den Bosch? Then you are at the right place at Earth. And another tip:take a city walk through Den Bosch, where you can see a lot of the history of the city in the historic center. And it will make you hungry right away!
