Wine here, wine there

Fitness freak Marije likes a glass of wine. After all, healthy living should be fun. Still, it's a good idea not to drink too much wine. Read Marije's tips.

Marije: If you love wine, sometimes it's hard to resist. One then… One can't hurt, right? Despite the advice that one or two glasses a day is allowed, I still advise against it. Why?

Alcohol makes you fat
Really. Girls who don't drink during the week (and moderately on the weekend) are on average three to five kilos lighter! And… alcohol creates belly fat. Yes, also that one glass of wine..

Alcohol makes lazy Your body has trouble getting into REM sleep. The quality of your sleep is always less when you drink. How do you feel when you don't drink? Fitter and sharper, right?

Alcohol as a habit
Unhealthy habits such as a biscuit with coffee, or always a currant bun with cheese during lunch are fairly easy to break. Alcohol has an addictive effect.

Alcohol makes sick
Research shows that alcohol (from two glasses) increases the risk of certain types of cancer. The chance of colon cancer is three times greater with more than 14 glasses a week!

Now what?
Jakkes, what a misery… Even I, as a fitness freak, love a glass of wine. And now? Because life should also be fun and enjoyable. I agree! Therefore:

• Aim not to drink during the week
• Do not drink more than three glasses in one evening
• Avoid a hangover (obviously)
• Try not to exceed 7 to 12 glasses (units) per drink for a week

It is such a useful investment to teach yourself a healthy lifestyle. This way you can continue to enjoy yourself without extreme risks, sadness and uncertainty.
