In the Santé that is now in the shop, you will find six tasty and easy chicken recipes. Chicken is nice and light and versatile, but there are still many misconceptions about it.
1. Chicken burdens the environment less than other meat
Fact: Of all types of meat, chicken is the least harmful to the environment. A chicken has efficient digestion, which means that little feed is needed for one kilogram of chicken meat. As a result, keeping chickens puts less strain on agricultural land and water reserves. A chicken also produces less manure per kilo of meat.
2. Chicken is lean meat
Fact: That's true, but not only that:there are also valuable nutrients in chicken. For example, proteins, which are necessary for building and maintaining your muscles, bones and blood. Chicken also contains carbohydrates, which provide energy for your body and brain.
3. Broilers are fattened in cramped cages
Fable: Broilers grow up together, in large groups of chicks per house. Depending on the farming concept – such as organic, conventional or free-range chicken – the space per chick and, for example, the outdoor areas are regulated by law. This is strictly supervised by various inspection organizations.
4. Raw chicken is injected with water
Fable: Most chicken that you can buy in Dutch supermarkets has no added water. If water is injected, this must be indicated on the label. So always check the label.
5. Chicken is the most versatile piece of meat
Fact: Are we influenced by the advertising slogan? Perhaps. But look at it this way:From fillet to chicken legs or thighs. Bake, roast, stir-fry, grill, roast or deep-fry. Add to that the fact that chicken can be combined with almost any dish and you always have a delicious meal. Chicken is indeed very versatile.
