Worldwide, an estimated one-third of food is lost. Action is being taken, but food waste measures are too fragmented and irregular.
This is stated by the European Court of Auditors in a report published yesterday. Tackling food waste must be coordinated more centrally. To achieve this, it is important, among other things, that a common definition of food waste is drawn up.
It is also important that more emphasis is placed on prevention of waste. Not only in supermarkets and industry, but also in agriculture and fishing.
