From burgers to veggie burgers. Can the supermarket influence our diet?
In England they are going to try. Researchers from Wellcome Trust, in collaboration with Oxford University, will devise a new supermarket layout that should ensure that customers put more vegetarian ingredients in their shopping cart.
Some of the changes…
Vegetarian products will be placed on the same shelf as meat, making it easier for people to find an alternative to meat. You can get more loyalty points for your vegetarian purchases and recipe cards are made with suggestions for a diet with less meat.
The project will last five years. The concept is being tested at a number of branches of the supermarket chain Sainsbury's. The researchers emphasize that they do not want to impose choices on anyone, but do want to encourage vegetarian choices.
