We all want it:healthier food. But in practice it is more difficult than expected. HelloFresh investigated why this is. And guess what? Important life-changing events play a major role in this. Think, for example, of butterflies in your stomach or a good portion of heartbreak. HelloFresh lists these most important moments and tells you how they affect your eating habits.
Cohabiting or getting married
A new, exciting phase is starting in your relationship:you are going to live together or get married! Good news, because these big steps in life can have a positive effect on cooking and eating habits. For example, respondents indicated that they cooked their own meals more often during this period than when they lived alone (20%) and they prepared balanced meals more often in this phase of life (25%). More than a third (35%) ate more fruit and vegetables during this period.
Breakups The breakdown of a relationship can have a disruptive effect on your eating habits. In this period, for example, respondents were more likely to reach for sweets (25%) and ate more fatty or fried foods (25%). Also, 44 percent say they started cooking for themselves less than three times a week after a breakup. Women usually gain weight during this period (44%), while men lose weight more often (20%).
The first child
A baby in the house often changes the daily routine and the diet of new parents can also come under pressure as a result. A quarter of these parents (25%) indicate that a lack of time can stand in the way of building or maintaining a balanced diet. For example, meals are often eaten at irregular times (43%) and 1 in 3 respondents cooks meals that can be on the table quickly. Also, many parents with a first child – due to time constraints – turn to less healthy alternatives, such as sweets (31%), carbohydrate-rich food (28%) and fried and fatty foods (24%). Many new parents also arrive unwanted after the birth of their first child (45%).
