Thinking of and eating your own Milka chocolate bar? The Netherlands was well aware of that. Last September, Milka called in the help of the Dutch for the first time to come up with a new Milka flavour. There was a massive response. Not just two flavours, but flavors with a personal and special story. The two new chocolate bars are available as a limited edition. The bars are not only available in the Netherlands, but also in 15 other countries in Europe, including Belgium and France.
The most special and unforgettable moments are often linked to a certain smell or taste. Reason for Milka to ask the Dutch to come up with a Milka bar that reminds them of a special moment. In total, 63,817 flavors were submitted with 35,625 different flavor combinations and 47,942 unique names. Milka chose the two winning flavors from all these creations, resulting in two limited edition bars that are not only typically Dutch, but also have a great story behind them. These stories can be found on the back of the packaging.
The 'Our apple pie enjoy moment' bar has the flavor combination apple pie, speculaas and caramel and has been submitted by 22-year-old Lorenzo from The Hague. His ingredients are not chosen at random, but come from the category of grandmother's secrets.
“The smell of my grandmother's delicious homemade apple pie always reminds me of happy family moments together. Grandma's secret recipe in which she added caramel and spiced biscuit, and those cozy family moments around the table, inspired me for this new Milka flavour."
The flavor 'Our coffee date' was invented by 27-year-old Annelize Wessels from Zwolle and consists of the flavors coffee and biscuits. The composition for her favorite moment of the day.
“After a long intensive day, I long for my favorite moment. Enjoying on the couch with my loved one. It is these wonderfully cozy evenings that provide the most tender moments and inspired me for this new Milka flavour.”
You had me at cookie dough
When creating a new taste, you could choose from almost eighty different ingredients. From licorice and bubblegum to red pepper and pretzels. You can't think of it that crazy. Still, most Dutch people opted for the safer options, with cookie dough, white chocolate, brownie, caramel and salted caramel being the five most chosen ingredients. And let this also differ per city. Where the Amsterdammers take a bit more risk and go for coconut, puffed rice and white chocolate, the Rotterdammers prefer the classic flavors brownie, cookie dough and Oreo. In Eindhoven, people opted en masse for Oreo, strawberry and white chocolate.
The two new Milka flavors are available from today at most supermarkets in the Netherlands and internationally in fifteen European countries.
