The World's 50 Best Restaurants today announced the list of restaurants occupying the 50th to 100th place, ahead of the 50 Best ceremony on Tuesday, October 5 in Antwerp. This year's list celebrates restaurants around the world, including 13 new entries from 9 countries. The restaurants come from 22 countries, spread over 6 continents.
Japan took 5 places in this list, the highest of any country, with two new Tokyo restaurants:Sazenka and L'Effervescence
21 entries are from Europe, 13 from Asia and 9 from South America.
Two new entries for 2021, Kjolle and Mil in Peru, are restaurants of co-owner Pía Léon, winner of the World's Best Female Chef award.
The highest ranked entry in this ranking is Alchemist in Copenhagen, Denmark at No. 58.
Belgium took 2 places in the list, with The Jane in Antwerp and Willem Hiele in Koksijde.
Beyond more well-known culinary hotspots Willem Hiele represents the Belgian seaside resort of Koksijde at number 77 and La Grenouillère in La Madelaine-sous-Montreuil in northern France is back at number 91. La Colombe in Cape Town is also a rising star:they rise by 33 places to 81, while newcomer Fyn finishes at 92.
This year's comprehensive list includes more Asian restaurants than ever before, spanning five countries. In addition, Denmark, Belgium, Colombia, France and South Africa each have one new entry, while Peru and the UK have two. The Dutch restaurant De Librije is in place 69. The annual list is prepared by a gender-balanced panel of more than 1,000 independent authorities in the world of gastronomy, from renowned international chefs and culinary journalists to well-traveled gourmets.
