Forgot a salad in the fridge?
So she's sulking a bit and she's all faded?
Above all, do not throw it away even if it is a little faded!
Luckily, there's a simple trick to salvaging a wilted salad and restoring its crunchiness.
The trick is to immerse it in a hot, then cold bath to create a thermal shock. Watch:
Contents
- 2 basins
- white vinegar
- ice cubes
- hot water
1. Put hot water in a basin.
2. Dip the lettuce in it for ten seconds.
3. Fill the other basin with water.
4. Add 1/2 glass of white vinegar and a few ice cubes in it.
5. Immerse the salad in this second bath.
6. Drain the salad as normal.
And There you go ! Your withered salad is plumped up and has regained its crunch :-)
Easy, fast and efficient, right?
It's still better than putting it in the trash!
If you have a sink with two bowls, no basins are needed.
It works for all varieties of salads:lettuce, escarole, endive, oak leaf, batavia and arugula.
But it also works for withered herbs.
Hot and cold water create a thermal shock which "enlivens" the salad.
The leaves are swollen and well hydrated. They regain all their crunchiness.
The white vinegar makes the leaves of the lettuce shine.
