The spices cumin and caraway are often confused. Once and for all:this is the difference.
Cumin is often confused with caraway, which is also known as wild cumin. Not only do the two herbs have almost the same name, they also look and taste almost the same:warm, spicy and aniseed. There is a difference:caraway tastes twice as strong and is sharper, while cumin is a bit more bitter.
You sometimes hear the name kummel. It comes from the German word Kümmel, which means caraway. Caraway seed and cumin are the same.
Cumin is also called djinten or djintan, often that is the ground variant.
