Eating fish without having to smell it would be nice, wouldn't it? It is now possible! Taiyaki ("fried fish" in French) is a Japanese pastry that contains the best ice creams:black sesame, green tea or even the classic vanilla and chocolate. Its fish-shaped wafer attracts curious people from all over the world and its multiple toppings (fruits, coulis, candies, etc.) make the ice cream so pretty that it is causing a stir on Instagram.
Open since mid-September, the store based in Chinatown, New York, continues to be talked about. Many are jostling for the chance to catch (pictured) and taste the iced fish. But the concept is far from new:it comes straight from the Land of the Rising Sun. Known for being traditionally filled with sweet red bean paste, this pastry has been around since 1909 and was first sold at the Naniwaya Souhonten shop in Tokyo's Asabu-Juban district.
