Prepare a shortcrust pastry:crumble the butter cut into small pieces, in the flour, with your fingertips. Add salt, sugar and just enough water to form a soft but not sticky ball.
Let stand for 20 minutes.
Boil the milk with the split vanilla pod, add the sugar. Let cool.
Dilute the cornstarch with cold water. Pour into the lukewarm, sweetened milk, stirring carefully. Bring to a boil slowly, stirring constantly. Remove from heat.
Beat the 4 whole eggs in an omelette. Carefully incorporate them into the milk preparation.
Roll out the dough with a rolling pin. Line a springform pan with plain edges. Pour in the cream.
Bake in a fairly hot oven for about 30 minutes.
Allow to cool before unmolding.
