At altitude, our perception of taste decreases by 30%. To remedy this, the Hong Kong airline Cathay Pacific had an ingenious idea:to make a beer that becomes even tastier at more than 10,000 meters above sea level! It's called Betsy, after the company's first airplane and was brewed in collaboration with the Hong Kong Beer Co. "We know that when we fly, our taste changes. Airlines are addressing this issue for food. But no one has ever tried to improve the taste of beer at altitude. We felt this was a great opportunity to help our beer-loving passengers travel well,” said Julian Lyden, General Manager of Marketing, Cathay Pacific.
To release all its flavors in the air, this one-of-a-kind beer was made with Fuggle, a variety of hops, honey and longan, a fruit similar to lychee. It will be possible to taste it in March and April 2017 in first class and business class on Cathay Pacific flights connecting Hong Kong Heathrow, Gatwick and Manchester. The Betsy beer will also be available in some Hong Kong restaurants and on the internet during this period!
After the beer brewed on the Moon, this beer specially designed for the plane, we have to believe that the future of this drink is not only on Earth!
