Today, Wednesday 25 October, Maastricht is launching the first national Vlaai Day. The Day of the Vlaai pays tribute to this age-old regional product and the cultural importance of traditionally made pies and authentic recipes is passed on to the next generation. The Day of the Vlaai is organized as a follow-up to the successful launch of the 'Maastricht Vlaai' in early 2017. The favorite flavors of five well-known Maastricht residents André Rieu, Tom Dumoulin, Fabrizio, Cécile Narinx and Mayor Annemarie Penn-te Strake have five leading Maastricht dishes. bakers brought together in one Maastricht pie.
Visitors to Maastricht can walk a Vlaairoute. This route leads past the five leading bakeries, where 1/5th pie point can be bought at each location. This way everyone can compose their own Maastricht pie.
