Who has never shed a few tears or cried while peeling an onion ?
Because no one can escape it without tricks, we are going to share with you the best grandmother's tricks to avoid this unpleasant feeling.
The cause of these tears is simple:Onions and all other bulbs contain an enzyme called allynaze .
Cutting the onion releases this highly volatile enzyme with tear-forming properties .
In contact with your eyes, the effect is guaranteed and the tears do not need to be prayed for.
1. Some cut the onion by running cold water above which prevents the release of allynaze thanks to the cold.
2. Others prefer to put the onion in the freezer for about ten minutes before cutting it.
3. Cut it under your hood so that the gas is drawn in before it meets your eyes. If you don't have a hood, you can simply open the window .
4. Another unstoppable trick is cutting with swimming goggles , a diving mask or even a ski mask . Laughing fit guaranteed!
5. Run your knife under hot water during the cut to prevent the release of the enzyme contained on the blade of your knife.
And for fun, here are two tips which, it seems, works very well:
- Cut the onion with a match in the mouth
- Or else with water in your mouth...
They are strong our grandmothers!
