This weekend, tradition obliges, we will eat galette des Rois .
You're going to make it homemade and you don't have a bean to slip inside?
So, what to replace a bean in the galette des Rois ?
Fortunately, there are alternatives!
I like to cook my galettes and now I don't stress anymore if I don't have a bean.
When I don't have one on hand (saved from the previous year), I found 4 cool ideas to replace it.
What to put in place of a bean? A chocolate !
A friend had innovated one day and I confess that I really wanted to come across this bean.
She had, instead of the traditional bean, added a SchokoBon Kinder, which had melted in the oven ... Hmmmm.
The gourmet bean can therefore be a large chocolate ball, a good caramel too, or quite simply a hazelnut or an almond.
Another bean idea? It is also possible to put a coin.
For my part, I choose foreign pieces brought back from my travels.
I clean them well with 90° alcohol, coca-cola or vinegar (or all 3) and voilà!
Precautions: avoid parts that are too small for young children.
Not only do you have to choose a large enough room and disinfect it well, but you also have to put it in the pancake after cooking .
You can put it discreetly in a part, or put it in the pancake by making a hole in the bottom of the pancake. Neither seen nor known!
In the same idea as the coin, any metal object can be an alternative. A jewel for example.
A good cleaning and hop in the cake! It's an original bean!
Precaution:be careful, do not choose objects that are too sharp, too thin or too small .
We can also innovate:a big bolt for handymen or a pretty thimble for a galette between girls.
In any case, insert this precious bean after cooking of the galette:either by putting it discreetly in a cut part, or by inserting it under the galette.
A bean is also a legume (type dried beans).
My grandmother had beans like these (for lack of money) when she was little.
It's just a little bitter if you really bite into it.
But it is the most economical bean! And it's ideal to replace the bean in the pancake.
And if you want to discover the homemade recipe for Cathy's frangipane and chocolate galette des Rois, it's here!
