6 ideas to replace bread or pasta

Pizza, pasta, bread… we love it! Except that it is not always compatible with our good food resolutions. Therefore ? We trick! Here are our favorite dishes in a healthy version, with these recipes that replace pasta, bread, wheat pancakes or even pizza dough with vegetables/fruits/light versions. We love it!

Lasagna

The trick:replace the lasagna sheets with thin slices of eggplant.

What gives? It's true, to taste, classic lasagna (with ground beef) may taste a bit like moussaka. But after all, moussaka is super good! These lasagnas are rich in minerals, vitamins and fiber. And eggplant does not need pre-cooking to be cooked properly.

Burger

The trick:replace the bun with two large mushrooms (Portobello type).

What gives? We are not going to lie to each other, the taste is not the same and we lose the sandwich side (the “bread” is juicy so not necessarily easy to eat by hand). On the other hand, it is to try because it is super good (if you like mushrooms) and it goes very well with cheese and vegetables, but also meat.

Pizza

The trick:replace the dough with a cauliflower-based dough:very finely mix 500 g of cauliflower florets, form a ball that is passed through a cloth to extract the water, add an egg and 50 g of grated Gruyère and mix, then pre-cook the dough for 15 minutes at 200°C before adding the filling.

What gives? The dough is a bit less crispy, but it's super good and goes with everything, just like a classic pizza dough. It is 100% gluten-free and it is an original way to eat vegetables.

Wrap

The trick:replace the wheat pancake with cabbage leaves (type collards).

What gives? It's crunchier and less greasy. We choose a cabbage with large leaves to be able to fold them up and form wraps that we can eat by hand. We stuff them with hummus, vegetables… it’s delicious! And loaded with vitamins.

Toast (bruschetta style)

The trick:replace the bread with slices of sweet potato.

What gives? Sweet potato toast is THE food trend of summer 2016. Gluten-free and with a relatively low glycemic index, sweet potato has the merit of being super easy to cook. We peel the vegetable, cut it into slices lengthwise and pass the toast through the toaster (yes, yes!). Next ? We put the filling we want:cheese, tomatoes, pesto, ham… Better still, as the sweet potato is quite sweet, we can opt for a sweet filling such as spread, jam or peanut butter. Yum!

Snack

The trick:replace the bread + butter + chocolate with an apple and dried fruit sandwich.

What gives? We think we taste it like a macaron:a slice of apple, garnish, a slice of apple. On the filling side, we do as we want but we recommend the peanut or almond butter mix with dried fruits (raisins, goji berries) or oilseeds (almonds, walnuts, etc.).
