My greatest happiness in the spring is to see the strawberries again on the market stalls.
I love them in all their forms:in salads, juices, compotes, with chocolate or whipped cream...
The problem is that strawberries keep very badly. We often find moldy ones in the tray...
It hurts the heart to lose such good fruit, and it also hurts the wallet. Because, let's be honest, strawberries are expensive!
Fortunately, we have unearthed for you 4 great tips to keep strawberries twice as long . Watch:
To prevent your strawberries from molding, here is a simple trick. In a large bowl, pour 250 ml of white vinegar into 500 ml of water. Then, soak the strawberries in this mixture for a few minutes. You will see the water gradually tarnish. After that, dry the strawberries by laying them on a paper towel in a colander or box. Before putting the strawberries in the fridge, check that they are completely dry. Otherwise, mold may grow there.
The problem when you buy strawberries is that they have been picked for several hours, even several days. And when you know that a strawberry can be kept for about 5 to 7 days, there is not much time left to eat them. To store them for a few more days, simply remove the stems and leaves from the strawberries. Why ? Because it allows the strawberry to keep its water instead of using it to feed its leaves and to wilt more quickly. Remember to remove the stalks from the strawberries only after washing them, otherwise they will soak up the washing water.
If you notice that some strawberries in the tray have a moldy part, do not throw them away! Simply cut off the damaged part to prevent the mold from spreading to other fruits. Thanks to this trick, all the other strawberries in the tray will keep without any problem. And don't worry, you can eat the rest of the strawberry without worrying about your stomach. It's still better than throwing it away, isn't it?
If you have bought strawberries that are a little ripe, don't hesitate to prepare them in a salad and sweeten them generously. You can even add a squeeze of lemon. Thanks to the sugar, you can also keep your strawberries a few days longer. And you will see, they will make a delicious juice that you can drink at the end of your tasting. Mmm too good!
