When booking a restaurant, we sometimes ask for a quiet table or a seat by the window. But do you ever think about where in the restaurant you place the healthiest orders?
By the window
People who sit in a well-lit part of the restaurant are more likely to order a healthy meal. Especially by the window is a good place when it comes to making healthier choices.
In a dark part
A candlelit dinner is very romantic, but people in darker parts of the restaurant seem to prefer a heavier and larger meal.
Far from the front door
Are you sitting at a table far from the door? That is the place where fewer salads and more desserts are ordered.
Near the bar or at the bar
People near the bar are ordering more drinks and cocktails. Obvious you would say, but people order more salads on a high chair at the bar.
At the television
More fried food is ordered near the television.
Logical explanation
These findings were made by food psychologist Brian Wansink. He says it's not that crazy. In a dark place at the back of the restaurant, fewer people see the unhealthy food you eat, the bar makes you feel that extra drinks are normal, a television distracts you so you order the first thing that comes to mind and the high chairs at the bar force you to sit up straight, making you feel powerful.
