Since 2002, the "50 Best" has been awarded by independent experts made up of chefs, specialized journalists and restaurant owners. They write down their experiences of the last 18 months under the aegis of the "Restaurant" magazine of the English press group, William Reed. Thus, only two years after its first coronation, the Osteria Francescana, located in Modena (Italy) once again tops the ranking of the “50 Best Restaurants”. The chef of the place, Massimo Bottura cut his teeth with the French chef Georges Cogny, as well as Alain Ducasse, one of the “most important people in his life”. Making it a point of honor to reinterpret traditional recipes with a contemporary thought, he did not always like it in Italy and had to be very patient before experiencing success. His establishment thus succeeds the Eleven Madison Park of the Swiss chef Daniel Humm, holder of the title, which ranks fourth this year.
Just behind the Osteria Francescana, which has had three stars in the Michelin guide since 2011, we find in second place, the Spanish restaurant El Celler De Can Roca, in Girona (Catalonia), also already crowned in 2013 and 2015. Only subscribers in the top 3 obviously, which proves their excellence. Finally, the French restaurant Le Mirazur, in Menton (Alpes-Maritimes), completes the podium! Held by the Argentinian chef Mauro Colagreco, it had already ranked 4th last year and therefore gained a place. Gaggan in Bangkok (Thailand) entered 5th position, closely followed by two Peruvian restaurants, Central and Maido, both located in Lima. And good news, there is a second French restaurant in the ranking, it is Alain Passard's Arpège, in Paris, which is eighth. The two establishments bringing up the rear in the Top 10 are respectively Spanish and Basque:the Mugaritz in San Sebastian and the Asador Etxebarri in Axpe… So many beautiful restaurants that we keep carefully in mind, to be tested during our future trips!
