Emergence of bulletproof Bulletproof coffee is coffee with a knob of butter and coconut oil. It has been a trend in America for some time, but we have also been hearing the word more and more in the Netherlands lately.
Why should you drink bulletproof coffee? The idea is that when you drink this coffee for breakfast, you immediately get healthy fats:a mix of MCT fats (from coconut oil and fats from unsalted (grass) butter. Instead of craving even more caffeine, you can get through the morning concentrated on a cup of bulletproof coffee.
The creator
The drink was invented by Dave Asprey. He came up with the idea during a trek in Tibet where he was served a cup of tea with yak butter in a hiker's hut. Good story? Dave is now CEO of his company Bulletproof.
As with any trend, there are also opponents
A cup of bulletproof coffee easily contains 300 calories. In addition, no scientific research has been done into how good such a cup actually is for you. Some call it nonsense or a clever marketing trick.
