10x inspiration for vegetarian spreads

There are many delicious recipes for dinner without meat. When it comes to lunch, we are sometimes a bit uninspired.

As part of the Week Without Meat, we received a number of tips with inspiration for vegetarian spreads.

Vegetable tartare

The vegetarian counterpart to steak tartare! In this meat classic, raw meat is finely chopped – of course you can also do this with vegetables! Finely chop vegetables such as tomato, bell pepper, grilled eggplant or zucchini, season with an onion, garlic and fresh herbs and sprinkle with your favorite dressing.

Eggs

An egg is a great meat substitute because it is rich in proteins. Boil an egg, make scrambled egg or fried egg for a quick but tasty lunch. Do you have a little more time? Then try making a poached egg. Make a whirlpool with the end of a ladle in boiling water and crack open the egg. Adding a little vinegar to the water makes poaching easier! Place a poached egg on your sandwich, cut open and the yolk will run out.

Cheese

Cheese is nice and easy if you are looking for vegetarian spreads. But did you know that a lot of cheese is not vegetarian? Rennet is used to make cheese. This rennet is often an enzyme that comes from a calf's stomach. Rennet is a by-product of slaughter, so cheese is strictly speaking not vegetarian. Fortunately, there are also plenty of cheeses that are made from microbial rennet and are therefore vegetarian. If the ingredient list says 'microbial rennet', you're in the right place.

Hummus

Hummus is a favorite. Spread your sandwich with hummus and you're good to go! You can make hummus yourself very easily. View the recipe for hummus here. Easy, fast and nutritious. Would you rather go for ready-made? You will find plenty of varieties in the supermarket:from natural to spicy and from pumpkin to beets.

Avocado

Avocado goes well with almost anything. Likewise on your bread! Use avocado as a topping for hummus, for example, but you can also eat it loose on your bread. Nut paste

Peanut butter, we love it! You won't be short of anything with this protein-rich sandwich filling. In addition to the classic peanut butter (with pieces), more and more special variants are coming onto the market. How about peanut butter with chocolate, sea salt caramel, coconut or chili? We are most fond of the variant that consists 100% of peanuts, without artificial additives. In addition to peanut butter, try other nut butters. This is how you make almond butter yourself.

Vegetable spreads

Would you like to eat more vegetables? Then try vegetable spreads for your bread! You have spreads of all kinds of vegetables and you can buy more and more in the supermarket. Think, for example, of carrot puree or baba ganoush, made from aubergine. This way you get your daily portion of vegetables quickly and tasty.

Fruits

You may not think of it so quickly, but fruit is also very suitable for topping your sandwich! Try banana slices (possibly as a peanut butter topping) or bake apple pieces with raisins. Apple pie on a bun!

Sweet

Not always healthy, but tasty:sweet spreads. Chocolate spread, sprinkles, jam, honey and so on.

Vegetarian meat products

Do you find it difficult to let your meats stand? Then try vegetarian meats! Quorn has several alternatives to your favorite spreads.
