How to make those lovely Panda cupcakes
They are not very difficult, those Panda cupcakes. They do take quite a bit of time to make, unfortunately. Luckily my girl turned 9 today, so she's big enough to help out if she wants to hand out such a treat at school.
But what do you need to make these funny panda cupcakes?
Ingredients panda cupcakes
Cupcake mix from Dr. Oetker, with accompanying ingredients
White fondant
Black fondant
Green fondant
Edible ink pen
How to make panda cupcakes, how do you do that?
First of all bake the cupcakes as indicated on the package. You can take them out of the oven after 22 minutes. It's helpful if you're trying to make it as flat a cupcake as possible. Now that is never a problem for me, so not this time either.
Let the cupcakes cool down for a while.
Unroll the white fondant. Use a cup to cut out large white circles from the fondant that you can use as a base for the face.
I had to cut the eyes we used on these pandas by hand because we didn't have any matching figures. Make sure the black part of the panda's eyes slopes downwards slightly for the right 'look'. A white small circle will be placed on the black eyes. we were able to stick it out again with a small whipped cream nozzle.
For the ears, use black fondant, round at the top, flat at the bottom.
The nose consists of a white circle and a small black circle on top
Then a nice leaf along it in green (also brings nice color). Since I had a plug for the leaf motif, I chose to use a leaf. Otherwise you could roll a bamboo stick from green fondant and make small indentations in it with a knife.
With the edible ink marker you make the mouth and you are done.
What should you pay attention to when making the Panda cupcakes?
There are a few things that are important to keep an eye on. The fondant will not just stick together. For that I always use a little bit of water which I put on my finger. I smear the back of the fondant and stick one piece on top of the other. Don't get your finger too wet!
Before rolling out fondant, it is useful to sprinkle some powdered sugar on the counter. This prevents the fondant from sticking to the counter or to your cutting board.
Only use the edible ink marker for the mouths on the fondant when the fondant has hardened a bit. For example, you can prepare the Panda cupcakes completely without the mouth and then leave them in the fridge for an hour.
All in all, making the Panda cupcakes is not that difficult at all. You only lose quite a bit of time with it because it is such a fiddle. But fun – and relaxing – it is!
A treat that is a bit easier to make is this minecraft treat. Also very nice!
