What are we eating today? It can sometimes make me almost distraught, thinking about what to eat today. Add to that two questioning children who - just like with Ellen - raise the question 'what do we eat' several times a day and you have me on the shelf. That is why I regularly ask for inspiration from you on Facebook 😉 . And I always pick something out of that, but still it is often the case that -while I'm making a choice- I also express my doubts out loud. ‘Mmmm… would the children like this?’, ‘Isn’t it too cold for this?’, ‘or too warm?’. There is always something that makes me doubt, so stupid!
And once I'm ready, I still have to go to the store to scrape together the 'what are we eating today' recipe before I can start cooking.

I have thought carefully about how I can get more peace of mind about this topic that haunts my head every day. And I come to the following answers for myself:
Anyway, the new agreement with regard to cooking and cooking days seems like a very good one to me. Hubby is allowed to work 2 days a week, I have already made that appointment. With myself. The other person in question is not aware of it yet, but that will follow after this blog 😉 . Dad also cooks regularly! YEAH!
With a minimum of 2x a week, the man who cuts the meat here in the house also cuts the vegetables and the like. I am on strike for those 2 days. Not only handy because it saves me time and I can continue writing… no, it also saves me a lot of questions that I can bounce back right away! If I get the question from the kids 'Mom, what are we eating today?', then I can at least say 2 times a week:'I don't know, just ask Dad!' That, plus the standard fries day on Friday saves me from racking my brain 3 days a week over this most frustrating question of the day. Oh no… 4 days, because on Thursdays we often eat at my in-laws .
I have noticed that -if you always do your shopping in the same supermarket- you always reach for the same things that you always have at home. There are even entire aisles that I never go to in our supermarket because they are simply not in my system.
So I decided to go to other supermarkets more often. There I am more looking around and searching and then my eye falls more quickly on products that I do not know (yet), or that we do not use often. In this way, there will undoubtedly also be something surprising on the menu more often.
This week I received a Hellofresh meal box. Not only very nice because you don't have to leave the house for groceries. The biggest advantage is that the question 'What are we eating today' is no longer a question. That answer is arranged by the supplier of the meal box.
If you order from them more often, you can choose from the (10!) dishes that they have on the menu for the following week so that you choose exactly the dishes that best suit your taste. Are you too "lazy" for that? Then you simply set your preferences once and they will make the choice for you.
Personally, I think 5 days a week is a bit much, but 3 or 4 days of dinner in such a box is perfect! Especially if the Man in the house takes his task seriously in terms of cooking days 😉 . Are you done thinking for the whole week.
Tip:Would you also like to try the Hellofresh box? I like you now with the code FLEXUB8 offer a discount of € 25.00 on the order of your first box. That's a hefty discount and a nice bonus, isn't it? This code is valid until June 30, 2017, so try it out soon!
In the weeks that I don't have a meal box at home, I make sure that I cook easy dishes that I can cook in larger quantities, such as pasta or nasi. Super tasty and just as much work to make a pan for 8 people as one for 4. I then freeze half and eat it again the following week. I add an egg and I'm done! I don't have to think and I don't have much work to do.
What I noticed over the past week is that we always have 1 or 2 portions left over from Hellofresh's meals. Of course I save that too, just until the next day. The next day I make a delicious salad with it and whoops, another day I survived the question 'what are we eating today?'! I was able to do it twice this week, with the risotto and the spaghetti.
Very tasty recipes by the way, of which I have of course saved the card with the recipe, because I like to make these again myself. And when I have completely filled my folder with recipes with favorites, I do a 'random week'.
Are you the type who absolutely does not like surprises? Then this tip is not for you. Are you in for a surprise, then you should have a random week. This only works if you have already collected a lot of recipes, for example in a folder.
It works like this: sit down at the table with your folder full of recipes in front of you. Close your eyes. Scroll through the folder and 'prick' a recipe with your finger. Don't sneak a peek while you're browsing, huh! Only when you have really chosen a page you can look… this will be one of the recipes you will make next week. This way you can poke a total of 7 if you want 😉 . Have you thought of what you're going to eat the following week... you just need to do some shopping 😉 . Or order online, that's also possible!
