Apart from those who have taken up residence in a cave for the past few months, we all know that the avocado is absolutely EVERYWHERE. The fruit has become the main material of artists, is the main theme of a California museum and is even the new fashionable setting for proposing (we know a few women who would like it, including us … provided you bring the soy sauce!). If all this enthusiasm around avocado hasn't put you off, then Avozilla should be one of the news you'll like the most. The term is the contraction of the words "lawyer" of course and "Godzilla", the monster of Japanese cinema, due to the particularly imposing size of the variety. Indeed, this giant avocado which comes from South Africa and which is now all the rage in Australia weighs on average… 1.2 kg! With its 20 servings, it is 4 times the size of a normal avocado! Sold to supermarkets by the Australian fruit and vegetable wholesaler Mercer Mooney, the beast has already exceeded 1.70 kg according to the testimony of an employee of the sign.
The man who helped develop this impressive variety, a man named Ian Groves, claims that it tastes like an average avocado but the flesh is softer and therefore easier to spread (on toast, of course ). The grower is currently only on his first harvest and for good reason:he had to obtain authorization from the South African company that gave birth to Avozilla and pay him charges along the way. And that's not all:it's a long-term job since 4 years separate the sowing from the harvest... Oh yes, it's starting to do! But luckily, the time spent watching these ostrich-egg-sized avocados grow is rewarded as they sell for a small fortune. 13 € per unit, more precisely. Sure, it doesn't make you want to buy 10 of them, but we have to admit that our mouths are watering in front of such a marvel of nature... Don't you?
