There is a lot of confusion about grilling corn. Some say you should cook the hulled corn before putting it on the grill. Others say it's important to soak the corn before grilling it. Another popular method is wrapping corn in aluminum foil. These are just a few examples of the ways to enjoy this vegetable. So which method is best? Well, that comes down to personal preference. All of these techniques have their own pros and cons, but if, like us, you're always looking for the least difficult way to cook, you'll love this simple approach to grilling corn.
The first thing you should always do is make sure you buy the freshest corn you can find (and yes, it makes a difference in taste). After purchasing the best looking corn, minimal prep work is required.
All you have to do is remove the silk, but keep the peel intact. To do this, simply peel the corn husk, remove as much silk as you can – anything left behind will most likely burn off anyway – then fold the husk back into place to cover the corn again.
When your grill is preheated to medium, place the corn directly on the grill for 15 to 20 minutes, turning the corn occasionally. Due to this process, the corn steams and roasts in its own husk, which gives an extra delicious taste. The husk also acts as a natural shield, protecting the kernels from burning.
Once the kernels are soft when pierced with a knife, remove them from the grill. And just like you should with a nice piece of meat, let the corn rest for about 5 minutes.
When ready to serve, simply peel back the skin to use as a handle, put some butter on top and add a little salt. You will be surprised how juicy and smoky this corn turns out to be.
