For Swedish meatballs you should of course go to Ikea. While the official recipe remains a closely guarded secret, it's easy to make delicious Swedish meatballs yourself. Below is the recipe.
Ingredients meatballs
500g minced beef
250g minced pork
1 onion, finely chopped
1 garlic clove (crushed or chopped)
100g breadcrumbs
1 egg
5 tablespoons full-fat milk
salt and pepper
Ingredients sauce
dash of oil
40 g butter
40 g flour
150 ml vegetable stock
150 ml beef stock
150 ml (whipped) cream
2 teaspoons soy sauce
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
Preparation
Step 1:Mix the ground beef and pork. Do it with your fingers, so that you can also mix larger pieces well. Add the onion, garlic, breadcrumbs and egg and mix well. Finally, add the milk and season with salt and pepper.
Step 2:Roll small round balls with your hands. Place them on a clean plate and let them rest in the fridge for two hours. This way the balls keep their shape during baking.
Step 3:Heat the oil in a pan over medium heat. When the pan is hot, carefully add the balls. Fry them on all sides until brown.
Step 4:Preheat the oven to 180 degrees. Place the balls in a baking dish. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and place in the oven. This keeps the balls juicy. Place the bowl with balls in the oven for another 30 minutes.
Step 5:Now make the sauce. Melt the butter in a pan. Add flour while stirring to get crumbs. Add the beef and vegetable stock and keep stirring so that the crumbs dissolve. Then add the cream, soy sauce and mustard. Let the whole thing boil gently, so that the sauce thickens.
Step 6:Serve the balls with potatoes in your favorite shape:fries, potatoes or mashed potatoes.
