Gather friends for an outdoor barbecue with delicious coffee. In winter it is extra wonderful to treat yourself to delicious grilled smores. Smores on the bbq have long been popular at campfires in the US and Canada, but it works just as well on the gas grill at home. In this article you will find three different ways to make smores; In the traditional way, a slightly more luxurious version with oreos and one with puff pastry for crispy marshmallow-chocolate mini tarts.
Smores is short for “some more” which is a description of the feeling you get when you eat these treats, you just want more and more!
1. Prepare for grilling by presenting a piece of chocolate each on two biscuits that you have within reach.
2. Grill marshmallows on skewers until they are a nice golden brown color. It will take a few minutes for them to get a nicely toasted surface.
3. Then pull the marshmallows off the skewer with your fingers and place them between the two cookies, the heat of the marshmallows will melt the chocolate and the cookies will stick together.
Increase the level of grilled smores by using oreo cookies instead of regular cookies! You can choose to put chocolate in these smores or just use the filling that is already in oreos. Remember to separate the oreo cookies with a wider knife so they don't break when split. The oreo filling improves the taste of your smores and is also a stylish and aesthetic dessert that gives a more luxurious feel to the coffee.
With puff pastry you can also make small grilled pies filled with melted chocolate and airy grilled marshmallows. These can easily be prepared ahead of time and taken to grill outside. Just as nice on the grill as over a campfire!
1. Place chocolate, cookies and marshmallows between two sheets of puff pastry, folding the edges inwards to cover the contents. Make small holes in the dough with a fork before brushing it lightly with oil so that they don't stick to the grill grate. Cover them one at a time with plastic wrap if you want to take them out.
2. If grilling on a gas grill, turn on grill and increase heat to about 200 degrees, grill for 5-10 minutes with lid closed. Turn the puff pastry package when it has browned so that both sides are ready to bake.
3. If you are grilling on a charcoal grill, also make sure to turn the cakes over so that both sides have a grilling surface.
4. When they look clear, take them off and serve almost immediately to really enjoy the melted marshmallows and chocolate in a delicious combination with the crispy puff pastry.
