What can I substitute for turmeric?
If you are looking for an alternative to this spice, you have come to the right place.
It happened to me on Sunday:I had no more turmeric for my recipe.
And what to do...
So my best friend, a chef in a restaurant, gave me the answer.
I admit that these are great tips that I treasure!
Here are 7 ways to replace turmeric in a dish. Watch:

Turmeric is often used more for its color and benefits than for its taste.
In this case, it is not difficult to replace it.
And in this game, sweet paprika does the job perfectly.
Why ? Because it has an orange color like turmeric . And in terms of taste, the paprika gives a little more flavor.
But don't worry, it doesn't sting at all!
Curry has the same color as turmeric.
If you chose it mainly to give color to a dish , curry can easily replace it.
In terms of taste, curry, even mild, has a slightly more pronounced taste than turmeric.
Although it does not sting, I therefore advise you to dose it sparingly.
Cumin is a spice that has a much stronger taste than turmeric. That's why you have to choose the type of dishes in which you use it.
For a salty dish with a bitter aftertaste, cumin is an ideal substitute for turmeric.
It is also very often used in exotic cuisine with chicken, white fish, carrots or tomatoes.
Saffron colors food yellow. This is what we use for paellas for example.
It's a less orange color than turmeric, but it can do the trick to give color in the kitchen .
On the other hand, its flavor is different from that of turmeric. But since saffron is neither spicy nor very pronounced, it is a good alternative.
Ginger does not color the dishes, however it gives a very particular aroma.
That's why it does not replace in all cases.
For my part, I use it more in savory/sweet dishes. Why?
Quite simply because ground ginger brings a slightly sweet flavor that is not suitable for all cuisines.
Safflower is also called "bastard saffron" and is originally from Egypt.
It's a real substitute for saffron...but much cheaper!
Like saffron, safflower is ideal for giving a yellow color to your culinary creations.
In terms of taste, it is rather sweet. It can therefore be easily put in all types of kitchens.
This curry is actually a blend of spices that contains:cumin, turmeric, fenugreek and chili powder .
This powder gives your kitchen a little beefier taste. But don't worry, it doesn't "rip out" your mouth!
The color will be a little redder than with turmeric.
If that's not important to you, then Madras curry is a perfect ersatz for turmeric.
Turmeric is often found in Asian soups. For example, Thai shrimp soups.
But what if we run out of turmeric?
In an exotic recipe, my cook friend prefers to replace the missing spice with mild curry. The color and spicy taste are retained.
