You hear a lot about superfoods, but do you know what makes them great? This week Marije from Fitness Bible for Women explains more about superfoods.
Marije: Chia seeds, wheatgrass, goji berries, mulberries, and inca berries are already nearly as common as an orange and a banana. Super foods are fantastic. They bring variety to your eating pattern and are super tasty.
Why the name superfoods?
They are richer in vitamins, minerals, important fatty acids and antioxidants than other fruits and vegetables.
Horror Stories
You can read horror stories about superfoods on the internet. That they can make you sick, and even poison you. What do you do with this? "What the farmer doesn't know, he doesn't eat." The truth about hidden sugar, fats and drinking alcohol are worse than the stories you read about superfoods.
In moderation
Don't be fooled. Everything in moderation also applies to superfoods. A kilo of spinach every day is also not good for you. A handful of goji berries, a tablespoon of hemp seed or a shot of wheatgrass. Alternate it with each other and enjoy the variety it gives.
How do you deal with superfoods?
Know that 'normal' healthy food, such as vegetables, fruit, meat, fish, eggs, etc., is sufficient. Superfoods can be delicious extras. Also know that reading labels (am I repeating myself?) is more valuable than investing a lot of money in superfoods.
Where do you buy superfoods?
You can buy superfoods at the organic store. Every major market often has
bulk packaging for an affordable price. In my new book more about superfoods and developing a healthy lifestyle!
