Hoisin sauce is the ideal seasoning for meat and fish dishes. But you can do a lot more with it:from wok to dipping.
Hoisin sauce is a syrupy, almost black sauce with a sweet-savory taste, made from fermented soybeans. The sauce comes from China, where it is mainly used to flavor meat dishes. It is also used in Vietnamese cuisine under the name 'black sauce'. There you will find it in noodle soups such as pho.
The classic recipe consists of fermented soybeans, rice vinegar, garlic, red peppers, sugar, salt and water. You can buy Hoisin sauce ready-made in the supermarket. The ingredients list of Conimex contains the following:soy sauce 28.5% (soybean, wheat, water, salt, E210), sugar, water, garlic, salt, burnt sugar syrup, modified corn starch, chili, E202.
