Before you are afraid that you have to deal with all kinds of equipment – no worries. We have found a fool proof way for which you do not have to use fancy frothers or other equipment. All you need? A mason jar (or other jar with a lid) and a microwave. And best of all? This trick will only take you two (!) minutes of your time. Are you ready?

This is how you do it

Take a clean, empty mason jar and fill it with as much milk as you normally use in your coffee. Make sure you don't fill the pot more than halfway, because that way you have enough room for the airy foam. Surprisingly, it is best to use milk with only 2% fat or no fat for frothing than full-fat or semi-skimmed milk. Milk with less fat usually contains extra proteins, which is exactly the ingredient that helps with frothing. Don't you drink dairy? Then oat milk is your best option. Cap the jar and shake it well — as hard as you can, yes, really — for about 45 to 60 seconds. The milk should now look frothy and reach approximately to the top of the pot. Now unscrew the cap and heat the uncapped jar in the microwave for about 30 seconds. You will see that the foam has now risen to the rim of the pot and looks stable, meaning you can use it now. Pour the hot milk over a shot of espresso (or filter coffee, for a latte) and use a spoon to carefully ladle the foam over it. Use the foam right away, because if you leave it on for more than a few minutes, the foam will collapse. We like it a latte!
