You too will probably score one this summer. And then you're standing there again fiddling with that huge piece of fruit. This is how to cut a watermelon without accidents.
You can put that first aid kit away again. With this clear step-by-step plan you will soon cut watermelons for everyone you know. Like a pro.

You may never have done this before, but it is so fresh:rinse the watermelon well. Feel free to place it in a small tub of cold water in your sink if it's too hard to hold. The skin has been held by many hands (growers, pickers, AH stock fillers…) and contains all kinds of bacteria. If you cut your summer fruit without washing it for a while, those bacteria will happily move to the pulp on the inside.
There it is, the step of steps. You now cut off the side of the watermelon. Kind of like the bottoms of a baguette. Use a large, dry cutting board (to prevent slipping) and a good sharp knife.
Place the watermelon on one of the sides – you know, which you just cut a piece off. Now it is much easier to cut the melon in half. And get started with figures, if you want.
Bonus tip:a watermelon has a longer shelf life uncut, so don't start cutting until you actually intend to eat or serve the cutie
