We often wonder what we will eat in 50 years, and if the insect hypothesis is often taken up, we also recently mentioned that of spirulina (a micro-algae consumed for its many benefits). But it is actually quite difficult to predict, since food trends vary quickly, as do food fashions (we think of the vegan diet for example). So, to give us some leads and satisfy the most curious, the team of experts and chefs from Whole Foods Market (an American grocery store) have compiled a list of what we will (probably) eat in 2018... is rather amazing!
In the first position of the ranking, Whole Foods Market places elderflowers, which will be infused and then drunk in the form of tea, or herbal teas. But we can also imagine that they will be used to flavor other well-known drinks such as Coca Cola or Seven Up… the proposals are open! In second place, we find foods in powder form such as spirulina or cocoa as well as spices which have many virtues (anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, etc.). In 3rd position, the chefs mention mushrooms, which we will consume in all their forms, and should notably be found in drinks such as smoothies, lattes and fruit juices. In 2018, the flavors and spices of the Middle East should also become very trendy (as is already the case), and in particular Moroccan, Lebanese and Algerian gastronomy. Something new is also planned for savory snacks (aperitif cakes for example) since traditional chips will now be made with seaweed or cassava, and fries with parsnips. We should also see variants of tacos appearing, with in particular an adaptation for breakfast (well, we are rather skeptical there!). To limit food waste, we will also eat the stems of vegetables more often, such as carrot tops, which are more commonly thrown away. Finally, we will become (even) more addicted to sparkling drinks (except soda).
So, does that make you want to?
