Celebrity chefs cook with poor food safety habits in their programs, according to a new study. The researchers watched 100 cooking shows featuring 24 popular celebrity chefs and found some unclean food preparation behaviors. Twenty-three percent of the chefs licked their fingers, which is terrible," said the researcher. “Twenty percent touched their hair or dirty clothes or things and then their food again. The chefs most common safety hazards are “no hand washing, not switching cutting boards between raw meat and vegetables that are not being cooked, and not checking meat doneness using a meat thermometer.
“Washing your hands shouldn't be a one-time thing,” said the researcher. “We saw some chefs wash their hands before preparing food in the beginning, but they didn't wash their hands during food preparation when they should have done it.”
