It's not your imagination. There are foods that give you a huge dose of pleasure and make you want more from the very first bite, making it very difficult to stop eating once you start. That's because they have the right combination of refined carbohydrates like white flour, sugar and added fat to deliver a big glycemic load — a blood sugar spike in your system, which triggers your brain's reward center and makes you want more. Can't you put down that bag of chips? This is why it seems impossible to stop eating certain foods.
Pizza
The more processed the pizza is, the worse it is. Try eating pizza with whole, fresh ingredients and go easy on the cheese as it is well processed. If possible, try to use a less processed crust.
Chocolate
To eat less chocolate, dark chocolate is better. Milk chocolate is high in fat, so try eating darker chocolate. It may taste bitter at first, but after a while, if you adjust your taste, it won't, and the milk chocolate will taste too sweet!
Cookies
It's just too hard to find cookies that don't have addictive ingredients. It's best to bake them yourself because you can control the ingredients and avoid the sugar.
Chips
Chips are highly processed. They're also salty and fluffy, so not only do they give you a pleasant rush, but they don't really fill you up, so you just keep eating them. Looking for a low-salt variety can limit your consumption.
Ice cream
Small portions are key here, so buy small containers rather than large or more. Even better is not to buy anything and go to the store if you feel like it. That way, when you're hungry, you have to get dressed, get on your bike, and ride there to get it, rather than just walking into the kitchen and opening the freezer. Better yet, make your own healthy alternative.
Cake
You can't eat cake without the urge to eat more. For this one, it's a matter of limiting your exposure and learning to say no.
Fries
French fries will always be addictive, and that's the point. For fries that are easier to eat in reasonable amounts, look for minimal processing and less added fat.
