Make Your Own Crispy and 100% Natural Fried Onions.

I don't know about you, but I love fried onions!

Especially when they are homemade in the oven.

That way, they're not greasy or full of artificial flavors...

Luckily, my grandmother gave me her delicious recipe for making 100% natural crispy fried onions.

Ingredients

- 500g onions

- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

- 1/2 teaspoon of salt

- 2 tablespoons of flour

- spices (optional) such as paprika or curry

- stove

- baking tray

- parchment paper

- fork

- wooden spoon

How to

Preparation: 5 mins - Cooking: 1h30 - For 4 people

1. Peel the onions.

2. Cut them into thin slices

3. Heat the oil over low heat.

4. Throw the onions, salt and spices into the pan.

5. Cook, stirring regularly.

6. Once the onions have absorbed the oil, sprinkle with flour.

7. Leave to cook for a few more minutes.

8. Preheat the oven to 90°C.

9. Put parchment paper on the baking sheet.

10. Spread the onions on the plate and distribute them evenly with the fork.

11. Bake the onions and let them dry for about 1h30.

12. Wedge a wooden spoon to keep the oven door ajar to let moisture escape (or open the oven very regularly).

13. Once cooked, leave the onions on the plate for a few more hours (or overnight)

14. Put them in an airtight jar to store them.

Easy, quick and delicious, right?

It's great in salads, burgers, sushi or even on small toast as an aperitif.

And then, onions have a thousand virtues for health, it would be a shame to deprive yourself of them, right?

In a glass jar, onions will keep for several weeks without any problem. So you can make a lot of it.

Additional advice

- The flour helps the onions to have a nice golden color. Spread it well to avoid lumps on the onions above.

- 2 tablespoons of oil are more than enough. Too much oil, and your onions will be greasy, won't dry out, and will go rancid faster.

- The thinner the onions are cut, the faster they dry in the oven. Baking with the oven open scares you? Don't worry, the energy consumption is minimal and the cost is estimated at around 13 cents / hour.

- And why not make several plates at the same time? Place them on top of each other. It will be even more economical!

- Very dry onions have more flavor. They also keep better because mold cannot grow.
