Adopting the Cretan diet is above all about wanting to preserve your health.
If it facilitates the stabilization of weight, it is above all focused on the prevention of cardiovascular diseases.
And believe me, I know what I'm talking about…
I discovered the Cretan diet a few years ago when my husband suddenly suffered a heart attack...
Because if after such an accident dietary rules are essential, preventing these diseases can also be vital...
The recognized longevity of the Cretans is not unrelated to their diet.
If they are not overweight, their life expectancy is significantly extended thanks to this greedy and balanced diet which protects them from heart disease.
It is characterized by an abundant consumption of cereals, fruits, vegetables and fish cooked in olive oil. White meats and eggs take a minor place and red wine is allowed in moderation!
- Raw, cooked and dried fruits
- Raw and cooked vegetables
- Cereals
- Fish (preferably fatty) at least 3 times a week
- White meats and eggs, but in small quantities
- Spices and herbs that will flavor your dishes and are excellent for your health
- Sheep and goat cheese, skimmed milk and low-fat yoghurts
- Bread
- Olive oil of course, but also soy or rapeseed
And…
- 1 to 2 glasses of red wine a day!
- Butter and margarine (even in baking, they should be replaced by olive oil)
- Sugar (but honey is allowed!)
- Red meats (they are rich in saturated fatty acids and help cholesterol to form)
- Dairy products made from cow's milk
Live better and longer, this is what this Cretan diet can bring you, which drives out bad cholesterol and thus preserves your health capital.
If it undeniably prevents cardiovascular diseases, it is also beneficial for reducing the risk of diabetes. In addition, it is ideal for stabilizing your weight.
I do not hide from you that when the dietician told my husband the rules of his new diet, he was not very...enthusiastic, he was a lover of good red meats!
But the fine cook that I am ended up seducing him with delicious recipes.
And then, once a week, we allow ourselves a little extra, on the sole condition that we get back on the right track the next day!
Adopting this healthy diet is a guarantee of longevity and well-being...
