Bimi looks like a type of broccoli on a longer stem. Not everyone is familiar with the vegetable and Albert Heijn is now changing the name. How about that?
Why? Algemeen Dagblad went to investigate.
The name asparagus broccoli would suit the taste better and be more accessible. In addition, bimi is a brand name. Albert Heijn switches to a supplier that does not grow the official bimi.
Fruit and vegetables as brand names are quite common:Chiquita, Pink Lady and Zespri are examples. It is also not the first time that a name has changed. The kiwi used to be called Chinese gooseberry.
