Santé journalist Annemiek regularly rides a bicycle and could use some concentrates. Here's her recipe for sports bars.
You need this
For about 8 bars
- 150 g mixed nuts (unsalted)
- 150 g cranberries (violence)
- 16 dates without pit
- grate of ½ lemon
- 1 tsp coconut grater
Additionally needed: hand blender (a food processor or blender is even more convenient, but I don't have one in my caravan)

This is how you make it
- Chop the nuts coarsely with a knife.
- Put the cranberries and dates in a high bowl and blend with a stick blender until sticky.
- Use some extra dates if it is not sticky enough.
- Then add the nuts and other ingredients and knead well.
- Place baking paper in a square tin, pour the mixture into it, cover with another sheet of baking paper and press down firmly.
- Put the can in the freezer for half an hour to allow the mixture to harden.
- Cut strips of it and wrap each strip in baking paper with a rubber band around it. You can take it with you during exercise in a ziplock bag.
Hint: the bars will stay good for at least three months in the freezer.
