About three years ago I started eating sugar-free. Soon the parcels and bags were also thrown out and we often left the bread behind. Not always, but about five days a week. However, Friday is still snack day for us. We often make this ourselves, such as this recipe for homemade shoarma spices!

I don't know how that is for you, but the word "rule" often makes me cringe a bit. Kind of like the word "diet" makes me itchy. As if they delete all the nice things from your life or replace them with boring responsible choices. Do you have that too or am I the only one with that defect?
Anyway, there is a "rule" that they call 80-20 and which means that in 80% of the cases you make better choices and in the other 20% you go all out on cookies, candy, chocolate, junk food and other nonsense † Well, that's how I interpret the “rule”, haha! And you know what I like to do most? I find it a challenge to make food from the 20% category as healthy as possible, so that in addition to all that responsible goodies I can also smuggle 20%. Sounds logical right?

Normally, eating shawarma on a pita bread falls hard below 20%. Unless you make it yourself! You can make shoarma sandwiches yourself from whole wheat flour (recipe) and if you have filled the spice cabinet well, you can also add the shoarma herbs to chicken, for example. And you don't even have to limit yourself to meat. Add them to cooked chickpeas for a vegan shawarma !
For the most responsible choice I recommend that you add the recipe below for homemade shoarma herbs to chicken thigh fillet with mushrooms and serve it with a mixed green salad with some tomato and cucumber. Make a dressing of extra virgin olive oil and lemon juice. This way you have a low-carbohydrate meal full of proteins and vegetables 🙂
Sufficient for 1kg of meat, unless you like spicy food.
Stir all ingredients together. If desired, you can rub them finely or grind them in a coffee grinder. Store the herbs in a jar. Enjoy your meal!
