Wine and women; connoisseur or no connoisseur… we shall enjoy!

Wine? I love it. Wine and women go well together anyway. Red, white or rosé. I like it all just as much. Now I have my preferences. A big difference compared to the past, when I mainly drank beer. Meters of beer! Then I slowly started with sweet white wine. Which woman doesn't? With a lot of ice. Over the years, the wine I drank became drier and the frequency of wine drinking increased. But that is 'mother's own'. no worries. I drink mainly on occasions and not daily, no AA membership is required. But wine and women is just an excellent combination. Especially with me.

I learned to drink wine. But what is tasty and what do you pay attention to. Honestly? I still don't know very well. I like a glass of wine or not, whether it costs € 4.50 or a tenner. Little by little I learn about wine. And that's very nice. Do you ever drink a glass of wine? And are you an expert? Or do you disagree with the statement that wine and women go so well together?

How do women acquire wine knowledge?

But how do you learn about wine? You can of course peruse the wine almanac. But more fun (and tastier) are wine tastings. For example, I obtained the first tips and tricks years ago at a very pleasant wine tasting. This was organized by an old pub friend. He is an avid wine lover and regularly posted enthusiastic messages on Facebook about the most delicious wines. We went to his tasting with my BFF.

Before we actually started tasting, we had already had two luscious white wines. A beautiful presentation about wine, tasty wines in combination with delicious snacks and many old acquaintances made for a perfect evening. There were lists ready with characteristics of the wines. It is up to us to note which characteristics we smelled and tasted. I learned how to drink “consciously” here. Not just clocking away, but trying to define the flavours. We women can do that best.

Wine and women, shared interest

Wine has my interest. And luckily I have a few friends who share this interest. While enjoying a glass of wine, we regularly see how our offspring are having a wonderful time. In the sun in the garden or by the beach. But even when it rains, we feel free to open a bottle. Then we toast with a glass of red to the sunshine that comes after the rain. And no… our conversations are not just about the children. We talk about wines (of course) and we tip each other when we have found a nice bottle.

Wine tasting in the village

A friend also recommended a wine tasting to me. The local deli recently held their annual wine tasting. Enthusiastic as we are, we signed up. Totally fun. Delicious wine tasting on a weekday evening. We were looking forward to it, until panic set in slightly. The wine list, which was neatly sent to us in advance, contained no fewer than 55 wines. what? I know wine and women go well together, but so good?

We decided to go on time. Because tasting 55 wines was a lot, even for us. Upon entering we were warmly welcomed and it became clear to us (thank God) that we really didn't have to taste everything. We knew a lot. That list was in preparation. You could then view your favorite brands, wines or grapes per winery and determine in advance which wines you wanted to taste. After all, every vintage is different.

How women 'fly into' a wine tasting

My girlfriend and I decided to start up front. The man from the winery was busy so we decided to fill our glasses ourselves. We can. And standing dry at a wine tasting is not the intention, right?

A neat glass of delicious prosecco slid down our throats. Sooo delicious! We took another sip and decided to take a look at how our fellow tasters were doing. We quickly noticed that our glass was full. A small sip to turn, smell and taste proved sufficient. Okay! Then we know that for next time. We discussed our tactics and started at winery 1 with the white wines. Then at winery 2 we would continue with red. That's how women do it. Plan. We would see what we liked for each bottle. We mainly relied on the appearance of the bottle. Say for yourself, a nice bottle is also nice.

No sooner said than done. During our test trip, fellow tasters approached us and inquired about our preferences. In the beginning we were modest. We just nodded gently and let them do the talking. As the evening progressed, we increasingly shared our own opinion. Wine and women go together so well. We noted our findings on the wine list and ensured that we neutralized in a timely manner. With a glass of water and a sandwich. Sure.

Full to the wine jargon

The white wines had been tasted and now we were at winery 2. For the red varieties. We were a little shy at first. In the meantime we were chatting endlessly with the wine buyers and the wine terms flew out of our mouths. We didn't always taste the same as the wine connoisseurs tasted. I also don't remember exactly which grape came from where. But that probably had more to do with the number of wines tasted than with the enthusiastic stories of the wine buyers.

We tasted wines aged in wood, spicy and powerful wines, but also full-bodied wines with a soft aftertaste. Robust, fresh and fruity. Trust me, we did it all! In the meantime we couldn't look at each other because otherwise we would have giggles. Because to be honest, we didn't know everything about wines yet, but because of the alcohol we were able to pretend very well.

In the end we tasted 23 different wines. We did taste a difference in the wines. Big differences. Some we really didn't find that appetizing, but there were also some that were really delicious. For the time being, I have not stopped learning about wine:combining wines with good food, that is also on my wine workshop list.

The experience of wine and women

After a very pleasant and instructive evening, we cycled home in red.

Our conclusion from this well-organized and pleasant evening was that you should take conscious sips of your wine. You have to enjoy it. Preferably with something sweet on the side. Cheese, sausage, sandwich. The combination of wine and women is good, but remember that the combination of wine and food is also important. At least as important are the atmosphere and the company. Together with your great love at a beautiful lake in Italy. Together with your girlfriend during a delicious high wine. Or just having fun with a group of mothers, while watching the children who are disco swimming.

After all, you have to hang the garlands yourself in life. But with a good bottle of wine they just hang much nicer! And we have another tip for all wine lovers:with the wine tumbler your wine stays at the right temperature for a very long time. But before then you probably already have it on 😉 .

Cheers!
