10 dishes that give you that holiday feeling

Many of us skipped the holiday abroad this summer, or want to extend the holiday at home. Anyway, you can bring the holiday feeling at home in your own kitchen. Here are 10 fish dishes that you can easily prepare yourself.

Spain
“Marmitako de salmón” has become a very popular dish in Spain, thanks in part to the fact that fatty fish such as salmon go very well with the other ingredients. It comes from the fishermen in the Basque Country where it was popular to eat during the long trips aboard the fishing boats. The name comes from a metal pan called “marmita”, which means “directly from the pan”.

Turkey
The Turks use mackerel in making their “balik ekmek”, or fish sandwich. The dish is quick and easy to make and perfect for grilling. The fish sandwich is originally an “invention” from the 1950s when Istanbul fishermen docked with today's catch. Freshly grilled mackerel, a good bread bling to taste, some greenery and herbs to taste, and at 1-2-3 you have a delicious taste of Turkey this summer.

US
We love barbecuing in the summer, but we've got a long way to go before we're on par with Americans. While they may be best known for grilling large cuts of meat, they also love fish. And fish is perfect for grilling – it's just quick, easy and delicious. “American Style Grilled Trout” gives you a taste of the United States. The dish is also well suited for deep-frying.

Japan
Mackerel consumption is rising in Japan. Health focus and new fast food products of mackerel have been linked to increased consumption. Mackerel has become the Japanese's healthy answer to sausage in bread. For those more fortunate, the trip goes to a restaurant for a mackerel sandwich, or “saba sando”.

Italy
Italy is more than pasta and pizza. Italy is also the country where stockfish is a delicacy and one of the national dishes. “Bacalà mantecato” gives you a new delicate taste of Italy that is perfect for this summer's cold table. This is a dish that is often served on a slice of grilled bread and is ideal as an aperitif snack or as a small dish on the summer table.

South Africa
Kebab is typical South African food where salmon has also found its place. Salmon instead of meat in the kebab tastes great. “Grilled salmon kebab with hummus” is a very useful dish that can be used with a salad, in a wrap, as an appetizer or as a perfect main meal.

Vietnam King crab has made its appearance in Vietnam, where it is considered a luxury food and served in fine restaurants. In several places in Asia it is steamed and eaten naturally, but in Vietnam and other parts of Southeast Asia it is also prepared with a deliciously flavorful mixture of ginger, coriander, chili and garlic. With “king crab the Vietnamese way” you get a culinary holiday experience of Southeast Asia.

Sweden
“Toast Skagen” is one of the most popular appetizers in Sweden. It consists of butter fried or toasted white bread with shrimps in a mayonnaise-based mixture called Skagenrøre. This is a Swedish classic that fits perfectly on this summer's cold table.

England
If you've been to England without eating fish &chips, you haven't been to England. This dish is so arch-British that it's just a must-try before heading back home. But you can also create fish &chips and the taste of England in your own kitchen this summer.

China
When the Chinese prepare fish «xian», it is fresh fish and preserving the original taste of the fish that applies. Therefore, the chef may only use a few herbs or spices. You make this dish in foil or over the fire, on the grill or in the oven, and it only takes a few minutes to be ready to eat. You can use all types of fresh white fish from whiting to cod or pollock.
