For some it has become a habit:first take a picture of the food, then attack. Curious what effect seeing all that food has on your own appetite?
60 photos
Research has been conducted among 232 people. One half looked at 60 photos of sweet foods, such as cake, chocolate truffles and pie. The other participants looked at pictures of salty foods such as chips and fries. Both groups had to indicate how much appetite they got from looking at photos.
Appetite
Then they were given peanuts and had to rate how good they tasted. Those who had looked at pictures of salty food enjoyed the peanuts less and had less appetite than the group who had looked at pictures of sweets.
Saving calories
Would it be so easy to save calories? Just looking at pictures of treats so you don't feel like eating them anymore? On the other hand… it probably also works the other way around (that has not been researched). In that case, the yogurt with goji berries and linseed would really blow our minds.
No effect
Fortunately, the researchers noted that you have to look at a lot of photos before the effect is noticeable. 60 a day is not going to work for us. For the sake of simplicity, we assume that photos have no effect on our appetite.
Do you ever take pictures of your food?
