Do you prefer to start the day with a cup of coffee? According to research, it is better to drink it a little later. We explain how that works.
It is best to drink coffee when the hormone cortisol is low. Cortisol affects your sleep and wake rhythm and makes you feel awake. Your cortisol level is highest right after you wake up. After an hour it starts to drop. When the cortisol level in your body is low, coffee can raise it.
On the other hand, drinking coffee when the cortisol level in your body is high can cause your body to get used to it and cause coffee to lose its effect. Keeping these facts in mind, the best time to drink coffee for most people is between 9:30 AM and 11:30 AM. Yet there are exceptions. If you get up early, your cortisol will likely drop sooner than someone who gets up later.
