Sauerkraut stew slow cooker, delicious in taste and easy to make
I hadn't eaten it in years, a delicious sauerkraut stew. Frank isn't really a fan of it, because he normally finds it too sour, but he really likes the sauerkraut stew from the slow cooker. Just like the kids, by the way. This sauerkraut dish is very easy to make and the slow cooker ensures that the taste is fantastic without having to do a lot yourself.
I'll tell you how to make this tasty recipe in the slow cooker. Prefer a different slow cooker recipe? I've made quite a few!

Sauerkraut stew in the slow cooker
First you get the list of ingredients for the sauerkraut stew from me. Then I'll tell you how it is prepared in the slow cooker. Finally, I will of course also give you the preparation in the pan, since not everyone has a slow cooker. This sauerkraut stew is very tasty with smoked sausage like in this recipe, but also tastes great with my hash!
Ingredients slow cooker sauerkraut stew
2-3 packages of sauerkraut (500-750 grams)
1 kilo of potatoes
half can of pineapple (or an apple)
250 grams of bacon
2 onions
4-5 garlic cloves
300 ml of water
stock cube (vegetable stock or chicken stock)
6 cloves
2-3 bay leaves
optionally add smoked sausage, for example
As you can see, I eventually use the little bit of water to make the sauerkraut stew creamy, you really don't need any extra milk for this.
How to make the sauerkraut stew in the slow cooker
Are you going to make the sauerkraut stew in the slow cooker like me? Very smart, because after the preparation you don't have to worry about it anymore. At the end of the day, just stomp and you're done 😉 .
Rinse the sauerkraut in a colander with cold water and squeeze it well
Peel the potatoes and cut them into equal cubes of 2-3 centimeters
Cut the pineapple (or apple) into small pieces, this is for the 'sweetness' in the stew
Chop the onions
Crush the garlic
Fry the onions with the garlic in a little oil until the onion becomes translucent
Fry the bacon in the pan
Put the cloves and bay leaf in a tea infuser
Put the potato, sauerkraut, pineapple (or apple), and onion with garlic in the slow cooker
Add the fried bacon (or sprinkle it on top later)
Add water and stock cubes and toss briefly
Add the tea egg to the slow cooker
Remove the smoked sausage from the packaging and place it on top of the sauerkraut in the slow cooker
8 hours on low
Your slow cooker sauerkraut stew is now ready, all you need to do is mash it. I don't do that in the slow cooker myself, but in a separate pan so that the slow cooker is not damaged.
Personally, I prefer the preparation in the slow cooker. The sauerkraut stew then tastes really good because of the cloves and bay leaf that have been able to soak in nicely.
Make this sauerkraut stew without the slow cooker but just in the pan
Cook the potatoes together with the sauerkraut for over 25 minutes in the stock, with tea egg with bay leaf and cloves
Fry the bacon while in the pan
Fry the onions with the garlic
When the potatoes are cooked, drain them first. Try to catch the stock so that you can add it if necessary to make the sauerkraut stew smoother
Mash everything together, add some more stock if needed (or milk for the real enthusiast)
