Hesitating for long hours between eating Mexican or Japanese may soon be over, thanks to the sushi-taco! This original culinary creation comes from Los Angeles (California, United States), a cosmopolitan city where, among others, Hispanic and Asian communities mingle. The city is full of restaurants specializing in Mexican cuisine or Japanese cuisine. But why bother to choose between tacos or sushi, when you can simply have them all at the same time? This is the bet taken up by Norigami Tacos, which offers Japanese gastronomy in the style of a taco!
This culinary invention was born during a "lightly drunk" evening, according to the company's story relayed by the RocketNews24 site. It was while working in a sushi restaurant that the current chef of Norigami Tacos challenged himself to try unlikely combinations. “In a joking tone, he dipped a sheet of nori in the tempura batter before frying it. He added leftover sticky rice, crab and whatever sushi ingredient he could get his hands on, and TA-DAH! The taco sushi was born”.
Launched in May 2016, the company has since been present at all festivals and culinary events, such as the OC Night Market or the 626 Night market, where the creation of the sushi-taco has conquered many stomachs. This success encouraged the managers to open their first restaurant, scheduled for May 2017, to celebrate the first anniversary of Norigami Tacos. For this, they have just launched a crowdfunding campaign, with the aim of raising the sum of 100,000 dollars (about 94,000 €). Good luck to them ! We must admit that we would love to taste...
