Making your own dips is super easy, takes little time and is much tastier and healthier than from a container from the store. Do you already know this delicious red onion chutney?
Ingredients
For 1 jar
- 400 g red onions
- 100 ml red wine
- 30 g brown sugar
- 30 ml red wine vinegar
- Splash of olive oil
Preparation
- Peel the onions and cut into half rings. Place the onions with the sugar, vinegar, red wine, olive oil and 50 ml water in a pan and bring to the boil. Simmer gently for 45 minutes.
- Stir the mixture regularly to prevent burning.
- The chutney is ready when the onions are buttery soft and all the liquid has been absorbed.
- Pour the chutney into a clean jar and let it cool.
Tip 1: don't you want alcohol in the chutney? Then just leave it out, (almost) just as tasty. Instead, add a splash of balsamic vinegar and some extra water.
Tip 2: In a sterilized jar you can keep the chutney in the fridge for at least two weeks. By preserving you can make it even longer.
